The Android firmware 4.0.4 is finally available and no doubt you want to get your hands on it for your Google Nexus S 4G CDMA device. We can help you do this without too much work and even if you haven’t done this sort of stuff in the past. However there are certaim precaution you need to take before continuing to the install protocol of the new firmware.
What you need to do before updating your new device
Since the update protocol can erase or corrupt your files it is wise you back them up somewhere else. You can copy images, videos and music to your SDcard or to your computer. When it comes to saving you contacts make sure you Synced your phone with the Gmail app. Also ensure you have a full battery before continuing (or at least at around 60%) so your device doesn’t power down in the middle of the installation which can be catastrophic for your phone. Uninstall all anti-virus or firewall software as it may cancel the updated procedure. Also make sure you have USB debugging on and to do this go to Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging. Here is a screen shot:
The Updating Process
Once again, please note that this is only for Google Nexus S 4G CDMA and will not work on other devices or models!- You must download two files and save them to your computers. These files are: IMM26 Firmware Zip and ICS Kernel 4.0.4.
- Once the download is done you may connect your phone via a USB cable and copy these two files onto it.
- Ne next step is to get into Recovery mode and a lot of people have trouble wit this one so read carefully. Shut down your phone and hold down the the Volume Up button and then turn the device on (make sure you where pressing the volume up button). In case you don’t succeed right away just repeat this step until you do.
- Now that you are in the Recovery menu you must wipe all the phone data. Choose the option “Wipe Data / factory Reset” and after that select“Wipe Cache” and remember to also clear the “Dalvik Cache”.
- If you wiped all of the cache and phone data you can proceed to f “Install Zip from SD Card”.
- Now select “Choose Zip from SD Card” and choose the file “Unofficial-IMM26-deodexed-interactive” which you copied to the phone earlier. The install process can take several minuets.
- Again you must choose “Install Zip from SD Card” and go for “Choose Zip from SD Card” and after that select the other that you copied that is named “IMM26.7z”.
- Congratulations you are done! All that is left to do is choose the option “ ++++ Go Back ++++ ” to get back to the menu and select “reboot system now”.
